Stonegate to start showing horse racing in pubs

Stonegate pub company, which last year bought 333 pubs from Mitchells and Butlers, is to start showing horse racing in 135 of its pubs with Sky TV.

The move follows a deal with horse racing channel Racing UK, and coverage will start this month in time for the Cheltenham Festival (15-18 March).

Pubs will show live racing coverage from 30 UK racecourses, including Cheltenham, Aintree, Epsom, Goodwood and Newmarket.

Ian Payne, chairman of Stonegate pub company, said: "This partnership between Stonegate Pub Company and Racing UK ensures that our customers will have the best in racing viewing, be it during the day or evening. With over 135 pubs showing the best of sporting occasions, it puts our pubs right at the heart of the many communities in which they operate."

Racing UK's Tom Robins said: "Horse racing is the second most popular sport, after football, and this deal with Stonegate will offer pub customers the chance to watch live racing on TV in the afternoons and evenings, and bring a boost to business during the quieter times."
