Sodexo Prestige wins one-off catering deal for Walker Cup

Prestige Scotland, the dedicated Scottish division of Sodexo Prestige, has won a one-off contract to provide the catering for the Walker Cup golf tournament in Aberdeen.

The deal will see Prestige Scotland take on the catering at the Balgownie Links at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club for the first time in September this year.

The 43rd Walker Cup Match sees the best American amateur golfers take on the leading non-professionals from Great Britain and Ireland on 10 and 11 September. The event is run by world golf's governing body, the R&A.

Sodexo Prestige provides catering for other R&A tournaments, including last year's 150th Open Championship at St Andrews, the 2011 Open at Royal St George's Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, and the 2010 Senior's Open, which is also part of the European Senior Tour, at Carnoustie.

The Walker Cup will see Prestige Scotland cater for up to 5,000 members of the public, as well as a gala dinner for 400, corporate hospitality for 200, members' catering for 800 and a members' event for 600 people.

Austin Tilsley, Prestige Scotland regional director, said: "I am delighted that Prestige Scotland has been appointed by the R&A to cater for this highly prestigious event. For the past three years, the Prestige Scotland team, as part of the national Sodexo Prestige contract with the R&A for The Open Championship, has built very strong relationships with The R&A.

"This gives my team an excellent opportunity to use our diverse range of skills to deliver this exciting event. We will be using our pool of staff from Aberdeen Football Club to help deliver the event and, furthermore, we will be working with local suppliers to ensure we have the freshest seasonal produce available to show off the very best of Scotland's larder on this world wide stage."

The Prestige Scotland team at Aberdeen Football Club will be boosted by an additional staff of up to 50 for the event.
