Legacy Hotels and Resorts has been appointed to manage the four-star, 29-bedroom Great Hallingbury Manor Hotel, near Bishop's Stortford, after its parent company fell into administration last year.

It will be the task of Legacy to rebuild confidence in the business as a leading wedding, banqueting and corporate destination in preparation for the sale of the property.

"We have been appointed to continue the Great Hallingbury Manor's recovery after a challenging couple of years," said Andy Townsend, Legacy's chief executive.

The hotel's parent company, Escape Hotels UK, went into administration after experiencing severe cashflow problems. Former executive chef of Great Hallingbury's Lakeside restaurant, Anton Edelmann - head chef of London's Savoy hotel for 21 years - left the hotel early this year.

Townsend said that Legacy has a proven track record of turning around three and four-star hotels in the UK. The Great Hallingbury is the 34th hotel in its current portfolio of properties in the UK and Spain.

Jeremy Jones of Christie + Co, who will be handling the hotel's sale, said: "We expect to find a new owner who will see the value and opportunity in this business and appreciate the investment made in it, which has seen an additional 18 guest rooms that are currently not traded yet, but with a little investment would take the property up to a full complement of 47 guest rooms."

In 2010 Legacy turned the four-star deluxe Llangoed Hall hotel in the Brecon Beacons into a profitable hotel before Christie + Co sold it to Von Essen Hotels, which last week went into administration.
