Hotel revenue per booking jumps nearly 400% for Royal Wedding weekend

London hotel revenue per booking is to increase by nearly 400% for the Royal Wedding weekend, according to technology provider Pegasus Solutions.

In a special edition of The Pegasus View produced on the eve of the nuptials, the average revenue per booking is shown to rise by as much as 383.7% on 30 April compared with the same day in 2010, 215.1% on the preceding weekend and 210.9% for the post-wedding weekend.

Room rates are said to increase by 134% for the coming weekend, year-on-year, while the length of stay increases by more than 100% over 2010, with a rise of 71.4% over the weekend before and 90.2% over the following weekend.

"We're seeing a pre- and after-party effect for the wedding that has the makings of a windfall for London hotels," said Mike Kistner, chief executive of Pegasus Solutions. "Domestic and international travellers either came early or are staying on through the days and week after the wedding to continue the experience. The resulting combination of higher rates and longer stays means total revenue for each stay will increase by triple-digit percentages over last year for the weekends before, during and after the wedding."

Most inbound travel to London for the wedding is domestic, with travellers from the USA comprising the second-highest source of bookings. Pegasus is reporting France and Germany as the next-highest sources of international visitors for the event.

The special edition of The Pegasus View, which uses data from billions of transactions for 90,000 hotels worldwide processed monthly by Pegasus Solutions, is available free at www.pegs.com.
