Villandry taken over by Village du Pain founder

London food store, bar and restaurant Villandry has been taken over by Village du Pain founder Philippe Le Roux.

The Great Portland Street institution was acquired from Hush owner Jamie Barber for an undisclosed sum and comes one month after Barber's sale of his Kitchen Italia group of restaurants.

Le Roux intends to expand the Villandry business, which has been operating for more than 20 years and has a flagship site in Great Portland Street and a successful outlet at the Bicester Village shopping centre in Oxfordshire. He said: "I am honoured to be part of the Villandry story and delighted to be working with such a fresh and dynamic team."

Barber added: "Philippe is one of the most skilled operators of his class and I am delighted to pass the keys of Villandry on to him knowing that he has plans to grow the business and take it to the next level."

Coffer Corporate Leisure, the merger and acquisitions adviser that acted on behalf of Le Roux, described the deal as another example of investment in the leisure sector.

Villandry first opened in 1991 on Marylebone High Street and relocated to its current, larger premises on Great Portland Street in November 1997. It was taken over by Barber in 2005 and opened its second site in Oxfordshire in 2008, followed by the opening of the more casual Villandry Kitchen in High Holborn in 2009.
