Mark Hix and Tom Kitchin sign up to help train BaxterStorey chefs
Award-winning chefs Mark Hix (pictured) and Tom Kitchin are the latest star-signings at BaxterStorey, as the independent caterer looks to bolster its regionally focused programme of chef mentoring and training.
The two celebrated chefs will work alongside existing consultant chefs John Campbell and Nigel Haworth to deliver training through BaxterStorey's Chef Academy.
Hix, who launched his eponymous restaurant group with the Hix Oyster and Chop House in 2008, will work with BaxterStorey teams operating across London, while Michelin-starred Kitchin, owner of the Kitchin in Edinburgh, will mentor the caterer's chefs in Scotland.
Chief executive Noel Mahony said that Hix and Kitchin's passions for chef development, regional food and seasonal produce were shared as the core principles of BaxterStorey's business.
"We make a big investment in training our chefs and we are delighted that they have an opportunity to learn from some of the UK's finest talent," he said. "It's exciting that these two highly acclaimed chefs will be supporting their development."
Northcote's Nigel Haworth was recruited last year to provide training for BaxterStorey chefs working in the Midlands and North of England, while John Campbell, consultant chef to the Dorchester Collection's Coworth Park hotel near Ascot, will be responsible for the South-east.
Hix said: "It is fantastic to see a food service operator focusing its efforts on sourcing seasonal and local ingredients, supporting British farmers and growers, and it is important that we teach this to the next generation of chefs.
"I look forward to working and supporting these chefs."
Kitchin added: "I feel incredibly excited about this programme and look forward to having these young chefs in my kitchen.
"By constantly sharing my passion and knowledge I always push for young talents to come forward. Scotland is incredibly exciting for cooking just now and I hope to inspire some chefs to go on to great things."
