Kirk Kinsell appointed president of the Americas for InterContinental Hotels Group

Kirk Kinsell, current president of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), is to leave his current position to take on the same role for the Americas.

He will succeed the current president and executive director, Jim Abrahamson, who is leaving the group to become chief executive of an independent lodging company in the United States.

Kinsell, who has been a member of the senior leadership team of IHG since 2002, will take up his new role immediately, with Paul Edgecliffe-Johnson, currently chief finance officer of the EMEA region and head of development for Europe, replacing him in the interim while a long-term successor is appointed.

There are currently 700 IHG hotels with a total of more than 121,000 bedrooms in the EMEA region.

Kinsell's departure for America comes a month before Andrew Cosslett steps down as chief executive of IHG.

Richard Solomons, incoming chief executive of IHG, said: "Having held a number of senior leadership roles in the Americas region before taking up his current position in EMEA, Kirk knows the region, the team, the owner community and the business inside out. He has done an outstanding job leading our EMEA region and I look forward to him continuing this success in the Americas."

"In Paul we have an experienced executive who will take over the reins on an interim basis. He knows the business extremely well and will ensure continuity as we continue to build momentum across the EMEA region."

IHG is the world's largest hotel group by number of rooms, with a portfolio of over 4,400 hotels and more than 652,000 guest rooms in 100 countries.
