Amadeus to recruit 1,000 new staff for high-profile events

Amadeus, the NEC Group‘s event catering business, will be boosting the job market with 1,000 new posts over the next 12 months thanks to a string of upcoming high-profile events.

Recent contract wins, including the London 2012 Olympics and the RHSHampton Court Palace Flower Show, along with the 11th year of operation at the Barclays Scottish Open, are responsible for the recruitment drive.

The new roles are a mixture of permanent and temporary positions, including a number of senior management appointments, across the Midlands, Scotland and Surrey.

The news comes as a joint report by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation and KPMG showed the rise during May in both staff vacancies and temporary posts was at its weakest since 2010.

The multimillion-pound contract to cater at Olympic Park North has created employment for hundreds of workers in 2012.

While the majority of roles are temporary posts of up to six months, the contract also includes senior director and deputy director level appointments, based between the company's Birmingham base and London.

Jobseekers in the London 2012 host boroughs will benefit most from the recruitment campaign, with Amadeus committed to sourcing a percentage of staff from the local area.

The three-year deal to cater for the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, the UK's second-biggest flower show after RHS Chelsea, will see the creation of around 150 roles per season, plus senior management roles, while the Barclays Scottish Open Golf Championships at Castle Stuart, Inverness, in July creates around 100 seasonal positions.

Alyson Cawley, managing director of Amadeus, said: "It is a very testing time for thousands of people who are currently seeking job opportunities and we are pleased to be creating new roles as the growth in the number of UK vacancies has slowed.

"Our recent success securing major new clients has created this growth and we look forward to sustaining this as our business continues to grow. It is a testament to the hard work of our existing team and the high-quality product we provide."
