Former Tomahawk Hotels property Aston Hall sold to new company

The 52-bedroom Aston Hall hotel near Sheffield has been sold off an asking price of £3.2m after the original owners, Tomahawk Hotels, went into administration in 2010.

Situated in four acres of grounds 10 miles from Sheffield city centre, the property has been bought by a new company, Aston Hall Hotel Ltd. The hotel is one of three, alongside the 23-bedroom Woodlands hotel in Leeds and the 70-bedroom Great Victoria in Bradford, which were formerly owned by Tomahawk, a company run by Robert Foulston and Tom Horsfall.

BDL Management has been assisting the administrators BDO with the operations of the hotels during the past 18 months. Woodlands - set in a former 19th-century textile mill - was sold earlier this year for close to the asking price of £2m to Elle R Leisure, while the Great Victoria remains on the market at a guide price of £2m.

Aston Hall, built in 1772 as a private home, was bought by Tomahawk in 2005 as a run-down 20-bedroom property before adding restaurants, bars, a gym and extensive conference facilities as well as expanding it to 52 bedrooms, at a cost of £2m.

Philip Gibson, partner at Edward Symmons, which is handling the sale of the former Tomahawk portfolio, said he was delighted to have secured the sale of Aston Hall. "The price we achieved reflects the calibre of the asset and serves as evidence of continued appetite in the market for high-quality regional hotels. We are confident that the Great Victoria, too, will command a healthy price point."
