The Mother Huff Cap

Managed multiple pub operator Urban & Country Leisure has bought the freehold of the Mothers Huff Cap pub near Alcester, Warwickshire, for more than £300,000.

The company, which is run by former Bar Room Bar owner Ross Sanders, will undergo an £850,000 refurbishment and be renamed the Greedy Pig.

Located in the affluent village of Great Alne, the Mother Huff Cap, which dates back to the 18th century, comprises a 40-cover main bar, a 20-cover snug, games room, 80-capacity function room, and a three-bedroom owner’s accommodation.

The business derived its original name from the 16th century term ‘Huff Cap’, meaning a strong ale which would “huf ones cap” or make the head swell.

Urban & Country Leisure’s estate now stands at 14 sites, although it hopes to grow this to 30.
