London proved the best all-round performer during November 2007 of the 10 European cities listed in the monthly Europe HotStats survey from TRI Hospitality.

The UK capital achieved the highest occupancy (of 86.7%) and came second only to Moscow in having the highest average room rate and the lowest payroll costs.

However, although London hotels scored the highest revenue per available room (revpar), the Russian capital proved the most profitable city overall during November in terms of income before fixed charges per available room (IBFCpar) despite having the lowest occupancy levels.

“Overall, London’s chain hotels are generating the most revenue and profit due to the winning combination of high volume and sales,” said Tri managing director Jonathan Langston.

“Although Moscow has the edge on a profit per available room basis, London beats Moscow on profit per hotel because of its far higher average occupancy. At 68%, Moscow’s occupancy is the weakest in the survey.”

Munich managed the biggest jump in IBFCpar, which rose by 47.8% thanks to the addition of the MTV Awards to the more traditional trade fairs and Christmas-related leisure activity being held in the city.

The BATIMAT international construction exhibition, which attracted a record 447,738 visitors over its five days, helped Paris achieve the second highest rise in IBFCpar, which increased by 44.1%.

Although Budapest saw the fourth largest increase in IBFCpar (up 30%) the city remained the least profitable in the survey.

The figures are compiled each month by Tri Hospitality Consulting.
