Devonshire Arms in Chiswick closes less than a year after opening

The Devonshire Arms pub in Chiswick, west London, has shut less than a year after opening.

Owner Nick Gibson, who also runs the Drapers Arms pub in Islington, north London, said the pub had closed with immediate effect. He took over the site, formerly called the Devonshire, from Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH) last June and reopened it after a mild refurbishment in July.

The 70-seat Devonshire Arms, which also features a 16-seat bar and a 40-cover outside area, is located in a residential area away from Chiswick's high street. Gibson blamed the location for the closure.

"There were just too few people interested to come down the road and see the pub," he said. "It's a very sad day."

GRH sold the Devonshire a year after shutting the pub in summer 2010 after it failed to meet trading expectations.
