London’s Savoy hotel has appointed its second artist in residence, Brit, Clive McCartney.

Taking over from the first incumbent Peter Brown, McCartney will take up his role on 1 April, when he will move into the hotel’s fifth floor Monet Suite.

McCartney, who was influenced by masters such as Whistler, Sickert and the Euston Road School, first gained attention with his scenes of London 15 years ago, which included Trafalgar Square, the Thames and buildings such as The Savoy.

Once completed, his work will join the Savoy Art Collection, which was started in 2006. The suite was originally where Claude Monet was inspired to paint 70 canvasses between 1889 – 1901.
