Amber Taverns has picked up 23 pubs from the administrator of Liverpool-based Cains Beer Company, safeguarding more than 100 jobs.
Cains was placed in administration last August, and a month later its former owners, Sudarghara and Ajmail Dusanj, bought back the brewery and nine pubs.
Since then, administrators at PricewaterhouseCoopers have been seeking buyers for the remaining 90 outlets.
Clive Preston chairman of Amber Taverns, which already operates 30 pubs across the north west of England, said: “This is a significant and tremendously exciting development, as it almost doubles the size of our portfolio across the region.
“We're planning to roll out an extensive refurbishment programme over the coming months.”
The deal was handled by accountancy firm Baker Tilly and law firm Pinsent Masons.
