The Loft bowls over food critic

The Metro’s food critic is bowled over by former Bacchus chef Nuno Mendes’ innovative 12-course menu at The Loft in east London.

Housed in a “funky East End loft-style development”, the restaurant has just one table making the dining experience much like a “dinner party with strangers and a host who's permanently glued to the stove”.

“Twelve courses, each one more abstruse than the last, all flawlessly presented, exactingly executed and wildly innovative,” Marina O’Loughlin enthuses.

Meanwhile, Time Out finds things aren’t quite there yet at Benugo’s latest venture the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen.

Charmaine Mok says the café in Hyde Park is about two-thirds towards reaching its potential.

Bloomberg’s Richard Vines recommends 10 non-touristy places to eat in Covent Garden, while Hilary Armstrong seeks out the best pizzerias in town for the Evening Standard.
