Meantime launches seasonal Friesian Pils
London-based brewer Meantime has launched a new limited edition beer called Meantime Friesian Pils.
The beer went on sale earlier this month, following the launch of Meantime Yakima Red which sold out in less than two months.
The 5.2% abv beer is a hoppy North German Pilsner with a herbal and citric aroma and a clean, bitter palate.
It is brwewed with pale German Pilsner malt and three varieties of noble German hops, using a traditional decoction mash.
Alastair Hook, brewmaster and founder at Meantime Brewing, said: "Friesian - or North German - Pilsner is a personal favourite of mine. My first drinking experiences on the Baltic coast included beers like Flensburger and Jever. These beers seem to have lost a lot of their hop character over the years and this is my tribute to a uniquely hoppy Pilsner that still has the power to delight drinkers."
The beer is said to complement smoked or cold oily fish served with wholemeal and rye breads. However, the dry, hoppy style will also mean that it can stand up to stronger flavours such as Indian or Mexican food.
Nick Miller, chief executive at Meantime Brewing, said: "Our last limited edition was a Yakima Red Ale, perfect for the winter months so we thought that a clean, crisp Pils would be ideal for spring - bright and dry, but with a bite of bitterness to it. We've been able to source the most authentic ingredients possible for this brew and it's the first limited edition to come out of our newly expanded brewery, so has been made with the very latest brewing technology."
