Compass and Mecco to cater jointly at the 2010 Ryder Cup
Industry Goliath Compass Group has teamed up with Oxfordshire-based contract caterer, Mecco, to provide the hospitality and catering at the 2010 Ryder Cup.
The two firms will provide the hospitality and catering for officials, guests and spectators at the 2010 Ryder Cup golf championship at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales, next October.
The official hospitality for the village will be split between Compass and Mecco, with Compass responsible for two-thirds. The anticipated revenue for the four-day event is £3m-£4m, with the project expected to deliver more than £2.5m into the local economy.
Compass will also manage and operate all the public catering including the International Pavilion, Moet & Chandon Seafood facility and the Media Centre.
Richard Hills, the European Ryder Cup director, said: "It was always our intention to appoint two caterers although selecting those two was hugely difficult as we really were spoilt for choice."
Hills added: "We are sure there will be friendly ‘competition' between Compass and Mecco at the Celtic Manor Resort but we know that they will work together as a team which, in our opinion, will unquestionably serve to raise the standard of the product."
Compass was one of the two caterers at the 2006 Ryder Cup in Ireland and has worked with the European Tour for more than 20 years.
