The Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham has completed a £2m refurbishment programme to restore its 115 bedrooms and public areas back to their original Victorian look.

Funded jointly by the hotel's owner, Hortons' Estate, and operator Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, the investment has also seen the addition of three new bedrooms created on the fifth floor and the upgrades of the coffee lounge, reception and Berlioz bar.

"This is a fantastic investment, and maintains the Burlington's position as one of Birmingham's top hotels," said Stephanie Hocking, regional managing director at Macdonald Hotels.

"We are already receiving very positive reactions from our guests and we remain determined to continue to invest in the Burlington to enhance their experience even further in the future."

Tony Green, chief executive of Hortons, added: "We have a long-standing track record of constant investment in our portfolio to meet the demands of our occupiers. We are also committed to working with our tenants and are delighted to have worked closely with Macdonald Hotels on this project."

Formerly known as the Midland Hotel, the Macdonald Burlington Hotel property was originally purchased in 1871 by Isaac Horton and was the first property in what was to become the Hortons' Estate portfolio. It has been operated by Macdonald Hotels since 2004.
