London’s Andaz hotel on Liverpool Street has unveiled details of its forthcoming fine dining restaurant 1901, which is to open in the autumn.

Located in the space previously occupied by the Aurora restaurant, 1901 will see the completion of the former Great Eastern Hotel’s multi-million-pound rebranding programme as the first Andaz property in the UK.

Housed in a Grade-II listed room, the 143-seat restaurant, which will open in November, takes its name from the year in which the original layout of the space was completed. It will include a wooden floating bar at the entrance of the restaurant as well as a monolithic grey marble cocktail bar in the centre of the dining room and a cheese and wine cellar at the back.

The modern British menu, which will be overseen by head chef Dominic Teague, will have a focus on seasonal home-grown ingredients. Starters will include Cornish mackerel with pickled cauliflower and sea purslain; with main courses such as pan fried fillet of Guernsey sea bass with parsnip purée, roasted shallots and salsify.

Andaz food and beverage director Jaco Le Roux told Caterer 1901 will combine the hotel’s historic background as well as the contemporary elements of the Andaz brand.

“The Andaz brand is very much about casual luxury and 1901 will offer a more relaxed approach to fine dining,” he said.

“Diners will be able to come just for a drink, a small snack at the bar or a full dining experience in the restaurant.”
