An Oxford Hotels and Inns hotel in the far north of Scotland is to close its doors over the winter months for the first time.
The Royal hotel at Thurso, which employs 11 people and is the biggest north of Inverness, will shut on 7 November and reopen at the beginning of March.
Fewer winter-season visitors are behind the closure of the 103-bedroom hotel, according to general manager Hamish Mackinnon.
"While the hotel is closed essential maintenance will be taking place and contractors have already begun work on this," he added.
