Hilwood seeking £10m-plus for Bath hotel

Hilwood Resorts and Hotels has placed Bailbrook House hotel near Bath on the market with an asking price of more than £10m, Caterersearch can reveal.

The 78-bedroom hotel, which is set in 20 acres of gardens, includes a spa, fitness facilities, all-weather tennis courts, plus conference, meeting and banqueting facilities able to accommodate up to 160 people.

Planning permission is expected to be granted to increase the number of bedrooms to 139 and to redevelop the back of the property, with the current conference, leisure and spa facilities brought up to a five-star level. The current Grade II-listed 18th century mansion will also be refurbished.

Hilwood, which paid £9m for the hotel in 2007, has instructed property agent Christie & Co to conduct discussions with a "select group of investors" who have the resources required to progress the £30m development.

Hilwood also owns and operates Bovey Castle in Dartmoor National Park and The Grand in Jersey.
