Fat Duck chefs in Hong Kong fatal car accident named

Two men, believed to have worked as chefs at Heston Blumenthal's three-Michelin starred restaurant the Fat Duck, have been killed in a traffic accident in Hong Kong.

The men were named as Ivan Aranto Herrera Jorge and Carl Magnus Lindgren in the South China Morning Post (see below for update).

The incident occurred at 11.40am local time on 19 November when a bus collided with a taxi and another bus. The taxi was trapped between the two buses.

The two chefs, both passengers in the cab, were trapped in the compartment along with the driver before being rescued by firemen. However all three had sustained serious injuries.

They were rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in unconscious state where they were later certified dead.

The restaurant in Bray released the following statement: "We can confirm that two members of Heston Blumenthal's culinary team were tragically killed in a car accident in Hong Kong.

"They were both senior members and great and dear friends. Two uniquely talented young chefs that were loved by everyone who worked with them. They will be sadly and deeply missed."

The restaurant declined to confirm the names of the two indiviudals involved in the accident.

The Special Investigation Team of Traffic on Hong Kong Island has launched an investigation.

UPDATE - 21 November 2012, 10.15am:

A spokesperson for the restaurant has subsequently confirmed the names of the men involved as Jorge Ivan Arango Herrera, known as Jorge, and Carl Magnus Lindgren, known as Magnus.
