Pengelley's restaurant shuts suddenly

Wednesday 21 December 2005 16:34

Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH) has pulled the plug on Knightsbridge restaurant Pengelley’s.

The pan-Asian restaurant shut suddenly today after only 10 months in business on the former site of Montes in the Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel on Sloane Street.

GRH did not run the restaurant outright but held the management consultancy and a minor interest in the business.

A spokeswoman for the hotel declined to comment but said it was the responsibility of GRH to find a new business to fill the space.

“We’re excited about what is coming next and people are working on it now,” she added.

It is not yet known what head chef Ian Pengelley, formerly of E&O and the major shareholder in the business, will do next.

A spokeswoman for GRH said: “It is with regret that Gordon Ramsay Holdings which was engaged in the management of Pengelley's restaurant and Ginger bar (164 Sloane Street, London) no longer feels it is able to continue with its supporting role.

“It is therefore with regret that Pengelley's and Ginger Bar will cease trading as of 21 December 2005.”
