Roman Emperor Diocletian inspires new Starwood hotel in Split

Five-star Le Meridien Lav hotel in Croatia’s Split, opened this week with a spa inspired by Roman Emperor Diocletian, who owned a spa in the city 1,700 years ago.

Diocletian founded the city of Split 1,700 years ago. His Palace is one of the major tourist attractions in the city.

The modern-day spa has eight rooms for treatments and an area of 3,000sq m.

Lav hotel is the first five-star property in the popular Croatian tourist destination and it also has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a whirlpool, saunas and steam baths.
 
The hotel, owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, wants to attract congress tourism as well as individual tourists.
 
Hotel Lav, used to accommodate refugees during the wars in Balkans in the 1990s, has been renovated into a luxury five-star establishment on the shore of the Adriatic Sea.
