Celebrity chef Atul Kochhar is to reopen his Michelin-starred restaurant Benares next month after he was forced to close it following a fire earlier this year.
The restaurant in London’s Berkeley Square will reopen on 18 January after being closed for nearly four months following the blaze, which broke out in the ventilation system of Benares’s kitchen in September.
The restaurant has undergone a substantial refurbishment as part of the repairs of the fire damage and will feature a new look and layout when it reopens.
New features will include a wine theatre and cellar, new private dining areas and a chef’s table.
Kochhar, who was one of the first Indian chefs to gain a Michelin star for his modern Indian cuisine with a British twist, opened Benares in 2003. He also runs Ananda in Dublin and last year launched his second UK restaurant, Vatika, on Hampshire’s Wickham Vineyard.
Kochhar announced his first overseas venture earlier this year, with a restaurant at the Marriott Central Market hotel in Abu Dhabi.
