Iconic French patissier-chocolatier Pierre Hermé is set to open a boutique patisserie in London this year.

The shop, which will open in Knightsbridge in the spring, will be called Pierre Hermé Paris.

Hermé, who in addition to Paris also has a high-street presence in Tokyo, said he was thrilled to open a shop in London.

“It has always been a dream of mine to open in London. Many of our devotees in Paris are from the UK,” he said.

“I am looking forward to finally working in such an exciting city for cuisine and gastronomy.”

The launch of Hermé’s shop will mark the third big-name patissier-chocolatier opening in the Knightsbridge/Belgravia area. His boutique will join the Pimlico Green chocolaterie of the UK’s leading chocolatier William Curley, which opened in November, and Gerard Coleman’s long-established L’Artisan du Chocolat on Lower Sloane Street.

Hermé is credited with expanding the horizons of macaroon making over the last 25 years, introducing flavourings like rose and pistachio which are now considered classic macaroon taste options. He is also renowned for his classic truffle chocolates.

From 5 February, Hermé’s macaroons and chocolates will go on sale at London department store Selfridges until the Knightsbridge shop opens in the spring.
