Harlequin bar and restaurant

The Harlequin bar and restaurant in Inverness has been renamed the Castle Tavern by new owner George Maclean.

Maclean has owned several hostelries in and around the city and currently runs the Clachnaharry Inn.

The Harlequin occupies a 19th century Category C-listed building on a corner site in the city centre. It faces Inverness Castle and looks over the River Ness.

The ground floor, split-level bar can accommodate between 50 and 80 customers while the first floor restaurant can seat 36 diners.

Outside, the business has a 50-seat beer patio and terrace covered by a Victorian-style canopy to provide an outdoor smoking area.

The Edinburgh office of Colliers Robert Barry sold the freehold off a guide price of £495,000 on behalf of Jim Savage, who established the business in 1995.
