The Fridge

The iconic Fridge nightclub in Brixton, south London, is up for sale.

Christie + Co, which is marketing the leasehold of the property said it was seeking offers in excess of £250,000.

The Fridge, founded by Andrew Czezowski and Susan Carrington, is London's largest independently-owned nightclub. It initially started in 1981 in a small club at 390 Brixton Lane. In 1985, as a result of increased popularity, the club moved to its current location; a converted 1913 cinema (the Palladium Picture House) on the Town Hall Parade.

The nightclub has a capacity for up to 1,700 people split across two main rooms, was at the heart of the early 1980s New Romantic movement, featuring such artists as Eurythmics and the Pet Shop Boys. It also claims to have been the first British club to feature such innovations as video screens and a chill-out lounge.

Barry Fitzgerald from Christie + Co’s London bars and restaurants team, said: “We expect the opportunity to acquire this iconic venue, one of the capital’s most successful nightclubs, to generate a significant amount of interest.”
