With the deadline for compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act looming, communications company Call-Systems Technology (CST) has launched a new device, called DeafCall, that could improve safety for deaf staff and clients. Deaf people working or staying in, say, a hotel are issued with a pager connected to the building's fire alarm. When the alarm sounds, the pager automatically alerts the wearer with a vibration and a text message, even specifying to the wearer where the fire is.
