Two-Michelin-starred chef Marcus Wareing left the security of his kitchen at Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley last week to cook for a fundraising event, hosted by actor Samuel L Jackson, in aid of two worthy causes.
Marcus Wareing, chef-patron of the two-Michelin-starred Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley, London, and his 2009 Acorn Award-winning sous chef, Chantelle Nicholson, left the confines of their kitchen last Thursday to cook for 300 people for a dinner in aid of the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity and the Samuel L Jackson Foundation.
The event, hosted by Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown star Samuel L Jackson, took place at London's Hurlingham Club following the Shooting Stars Celebrity Golf Tournament, held earlier in the day at the London Golf Club.
A-LISTERS
The dinner was attended by celebrities including Alice Cooper, Michael Bolton, Luke Wilson and Damien Lewis - who were some of nine A-list celebrities staying at the St James's Hotel and Club during the course of the events.
Working alongside Hurlingham Club executive chef Neil Carpenter, Soujar Events' Sofia Davis and event organiser Richard Willis, Wareing and Nicholson cooked terrine of foie gras, lapsang cherries, pain d'épices, thyme toast, a main course of Dorset turbot, English asparagus and broad beans, Jersey Royals, red wine and shallot vinaigrette, and a dessert of iced-lime mousse, lime meringue, sweet and sour pineapple.
The event included an auction prize to eat at the Chef's Table at Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley which went for £2,500.
The Rainbow Trust supports families who have terminally ill children via its Networks of Family Support Workers as well as through its two respite homes in Northumberland and Surrey, while the Hollywood actor's foundation helps Aids institutes and orphanages, in addition to WaterAid, Teenage Cancer Trust and the Breast Cancer Campaign.
Jackson said: "This is a culmination of our efforts to raise money for my foundation and the Rainbow Trust. It's a great honour to be able to do something for the people of the UK because I come here all the time and I feel like they've been so giving so it's about time I gave something back. I hope to help people who have sick kids that need a break."
