Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 3.4% in London and by 14.1% in the provinces in the week ending 4 July 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.
London revpar fell to £127.33, down from £131.77 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy grew by 3.1 percentage points, to 90.5%, but average room rate shrank by 6.7% to £140.68
In the same week, regional revpar fell to £47.91 (2008: £55.77) as occupancy slipped by 3.5 percentage points (to 70.8%) and average room rate decreased by 9.9% to £67.63.
Cardiff hotels saw a smaller decline in revpar, which slipped by 12.5% to £42.17 (2008: 48.20). Occupancy fell by four percentage points to 69% while average room rate dropped by 7.5% to £61.08.
Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 4 July declined by 7% in London (to £119.03) and by 12.6% in the provinces, to £50.27. In Cardiff, revpar fell by 2.8% to £50.77.
