Carling devotes £10,000 advertising space to local pubs

Lager brand Carling is devoting £10,000 worth of free advertising space to promote local pubs at this week’s Carling Cup football matches.

Thousands of people will see the adverts for pubs located near the grounds of Manchester City, Bolton, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa during the matches on 22 and 23 September.

Carling’s brand manager Martin Coyle described the matches as a perfect opportunity to promote local pubs such as Henighans on Lever Street in Bolton and the King Edward VII in Aston near Birmingham.

“The local pub is a great place to meet your mates and is a key part of the country’s social fabric. As we sponsor the Carling Cup it seemed a perfect opportunity for us to help local pubs at a practical level. Amazingly, 22% of people have never visited their local so there’s never been a better time to give it a try,” he said.

Carling’s brewer Molson Coors added the sponsorship was an opportunity to help the troubled pubs industry at a time when six pubs are closing each day.
