Compass loses major BA staff contract to OCS after 28 years

Compass Group has lost a major British Airways (BA) staff catering contract to OCS after 28 years.

The £5m-a-year deal is expected to commence on 15 October and it will see OCS provide catering to 5,500 BA staff at 12 UK locations, with one each at Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester and Gatwick airports.

The remaining eight sites are based around Heathrow and include an existing deal to cater for staff at an engineering unit in Hayes, Middlesex.

OCS is an integrated services business best known for providing cleaning services in the UK.

Lois Heywood, key accounts and sales director at OCS, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to be working in partnership with BA and that our philosophy for fresh, quality food offerings delivered with value for money has impressed the client. This has been a tremendous effort from the OCS team which has worked hard to build relationships with the client over the last six months; to identify their needs and create solutions to match."

Last year OCS revealed plans to take on the food service giants Compass and Sodexo at their own game, after it lost a cleaning contract for National Grid to Compass' Eurest Services, the incumbent caterer at the utility firm.

The boundaries between FM and food service businesses have become increasingly blurred in recent years as contract caterers expand their portfolios to include other services and both sectors grapple for market share.

Compass was unavailable for comment before Caterer went to press.
