The Hospitality Industry Trust (Hit) Scotland has opened this year’s Emerging Talent Scholarship programme for entries.

The scheme, which launched 14 years ago, has been expanded to offer a record 200 scholarships – worth a total of £1m in training.

Emerging Talent Scholarships are open to people working across the Scottish hospitality industry, from marketing and front-of-house to chefs and management, who are looking to further their careers.

Final-year students from partner catering and hospitality courses, needing vital experience to break into the industry, are also encouraged to apply.

Hit Scotland is also offering a High Level Scholarship for four general managers. This scholarship awards a place at the 10-day general managers’ programme at Cornell University in New York.

David Cochrane, chief executive of Hit Scotland, said: “Over the last 10 years the hospitality industry has helped more than 8,000 young people develop their careers through bursaries and scholarships. Being able to offer £1m of scholarship funding is a serious commitment from our sponsors and supporters to improving standards and ultimately helping grow the value of the industry.”

Hit Scotland funds the scholarship programme through fundraising events, corporate backing and external funding sources. Part-sponsored scholarships are available for companies wanting to invest in one of their own future leaders.

Full details on the range of scholarships are available at www.hitscotland.org. Closing date is Sunday, 30 November.
