Harrison Catering Services has won a multimillion-pound school meals contract in the London Borough of Bexley.

Under the terms of the three-year £4m deal, the caterer will provide meals in 55 primary and special schools in the borough from September.

The contract was previously run by Initial Catering Services, part of Rentokil Initial.

Simon Windle, cabinet member for schools at Bexley, said: “The reputation of school dinners has suffered recently and media coverage has highlighted the poor quality of some of the food on offer.

“We were determined to provide Bexley’s children with a good range of healthy meals during their school day.

Geoffrey Harrison, managing director of Harrison’s, said: “We share the council’s commitment to service and an uncomplicated approach to improving standards, starting with reducing the reliance on convenience foods and increasing fresh products.”

With this latest contract win Harrison’s now provides catering services at 380 primary and secondary schools in England.
