Campanile budget hotels face UK expansion and overhaul

European hotel operator Louvre Hotels has unveiled plans to expand and overhaul its budget brand Campanile in the UK.

The company's latest Campanile, a £6m hotel in Northampton, will be the first property under the new look, while properties in Bradford and Swindon will be completely refurbished in the coming months.

The group, which currently operates 19 Campaniles, has also appointed a new UK development manager to explore opportunities for new hotels.

David Anderson, operations director for the UK and North West France, said that Campanile's new look marks a "departure from the traditional budget hotel concept".

"Times change, and so do our customers' needs and in order to reflect this we commissioned a survey by the consumer research company Ipsos to look at expectations relating specifically to hotels and restaurants," he said.

"We have built this feedback into the new generation look of our hotels and our restaurant menu. We consulted leading experts including the interior designer, Patrick Jouin, and three-starred Michelin chef, Pierre Gagnaire."

Campanile, which was founded in 1976, currently has 385 hotels and restaurants, located across nine European countries.

Louvre Hotels is a subsidiary of Groupe du Louvre, which is owned by US-owned investment firm Starwood Capital Group.
