Paul Greengrass, who was born and bred in Newton Poppleford in East Devon, has bought his local pub, the Exeter Inn.

Greengrass was working at the Exeter Inn when the previous owner, Patricia Hopkins, put the property on the market.

He is now running it with his girlfriend Carly Rollason and his mother, who is looking after the revamped food offer.

The pub, which dates back to the 17th century and retains many period features, is sited in the heart of the village in the Otter Valley and sits on the main Exeter to Sidmouth road.

It has seating for 30 customers in the main bar and snug, plus another 20 seats in the dining area and 16 outside in the rear covered courtyard.

The property also provides a skittle alley/function room and owners’ accommodation comprising three bedrooms, a bathroom, office, kitchen, lounge and private roofed garden.

Greengrass has embarked on a refurbishment programme, revamped the catering kitchen and menu, and reintroduced real ale to the pub.

Property agent Stonesmith of Exeter was seeking offers of around £40,000 for the leasehold on the pub.
