Fox & Coney hotel

A former Scarborough hotelier has bought the Fox & Coney hotel in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

David Southworth bought the leasehold on the former coaching inn, which dates back to 1739, off a guide price of £275,000.

The hotel lies in the heart of the village of South Cave in the chalk hills of the Yorkshire Wolds. It is near Brough and 13 miles west of Hull.

The hotel is known for its real ales and home-cooked food. It is one of three major wedding venues in the area and a popular stop-off for ramblers on the Wolds Way footpath.

Following a recent refurbishment, the property has been upgraded to an AA four-diamond rating.

It offers 12 en-suite bedrooms split between the main building and an adjoining annexe, along with a 38 seat restaurant, 40-seat lounge bar, 12-seat conservatory and a beer terrace.

The pub is a hub of community life, hosting two football teams, a cricket team and weekly quiz nights.

The Leeds office of Christie + Co acted on behalf of Steven and Pauline Ellerington, who are retiring after running the business for the past four years.
