A boycott of the Greene King-owned Lewes Arms in Lewes, West Sussex, which began on 11 December 2006 continues, as local drinkers continue their protest over the culling of guest beer Harveys bitter from the pumps.

According to reports in today’s Guardian (23 March) the protest began after Greene King’s decision to stick with their own brand IPA and stop serving the locally brewed Harveys despite a 1,200 signature petition from locals.

Brewer and pub operator Greene King defended themselves against the protest by stating their belief that they were one of the biggest supporters of local pubs in the country in a statement given to the paper by managing director Mark Angela.

He said he recognised that some of the customers at the Lewes Arms didn’t accept the practice of brewers selling their own beers in their own pubs but they were proud of their beers.
