Hotels.com welcomes Budget decision to freeze Air Passenger Duty

Online booking agent Hotels.com, has welcomed today's Budget decision to freeze Air Passenger Duty (APD) for the coming year as a welcome break for UK travellers.

The company said that any move to reduce the burden on consumers was very welcome at a time when there were so many demands on household budgets and travel was discretionary.

"The chancellor's decision to delay the increase in APD, review the current system of distance banding and extend the duty to private jets is a positive move towards a fairer system that will benefit the travel industry and the UK travelling public alike," said Alison Couper of Hotels.com.

"It also seems fair that at the same time APD is being extended to users of private jets, who should not be exempt from the charges facing ordinary travellers.

As part of the Expedia group, Hotels.com has more than 120,000 quality hotels, B&Bs and serviced apartments on its books worldwide.
