US hotel giant Marriott has opened the first of its new look Courtyard hotels at London Gatwick airport.

The 218-bedroom property is run under franchise by Kew Green Hotels, which is offering an introductory rate of £69 per night to mark the launch.

Dining options include all-day casual dining in the lounge and Volare restaurant, which features a Mediterranean inspired menu, as well as a 24-hour snack bar in the lobby.

The hotel group aims to open Courtyards in Aberdeen, Scotland and Belfast during the next two years.

Jurgen Giesbert, executive vice president of Marriot’s UK, Middle East and Africa region, said he was “thrilled” to be taking the Courtyard brand in a new direction in the UK and Europe.

He said: “Business travellers today are looking for quality and innovation as well as service and style at a fair price.

“We are confident that this new contemporary Courtyard with its distinctive European flair will be a big hit with travellers from around the globe, offering value and consistency of product and service for which Courtyard in known.”

Courtyard is the world’s 12th largest brand with locations in 28 countries. 50 new-look hotels are set to open across Europe over the next five years.

Marriott has also just opened the 156-room London Marriott Hotel Twickenham, under a management agreement with the Rugby Football Union.

The hotel, which is located at Twickenham Stadium, home of English rugby union, also features six “pitch view” suites.
