Sushi Samba to open London restaurant in Heron Tower

US restaurant group Sushi Samba has confirmed details of its first European venture, which will open in London's Heron Tower this summer.

The group will operate the restaurant and sky bar across the 38th and 39th floors of the tower, serving a blend of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine. The restaurant will be the second outlet at Heron Tower after the Drift on the ground floor, which is operated by Drake & Morgan.

The restaurant will open in July, and follows Sushi Samba's ventures in New York, Miami, Chicago and Las Vegas.

Sushi Samba has appointed Jeffrey Kipp as executive chef, who joins from Daylesford Organic and previously worked at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay on Royal Hospital Road, Citrus in St Martin and Charlie Trotter's in Chicago.

Bringing together three different cuisines, the menu will offer Brazilian churrasco and moqueca, Peruvian anticuchos and ceviches; and Japanese tempura and sushi as well as meat and seafood from the robata grill.

The 1,247sq ft restaurant, designed by architects CetraRuddy, will include two outdoor terraces offering views of the City and will be accessed from a dedicated street entrance on Bishopsgate. It will be open from brunch through to dinner and will also offer a bar and lounge and an event space.

"We are thrilled to join London's dynamic culinary scene," said Shimon Bokovza, managing partner of Sushi Samba. "The energy of London and its international appeal is a natural fit for our expansion, and we are so pleased to make the Heron Tower our first European home."

Heron Tower comprises a slender glass and stainless-steel clad structure rising to 230 metres. It will form the centrepiece of Heron International's Heron Plaza development, incorporating new public spaces and a network of squares and gardens. Luxury hotel group Four Seasons is developing a mixed-use project as a component of Heron Plaza.
