Local hotel manager Keith Grant is the new owner of the Sportsmans Arms, a food-led destination roadside pub near Dartmouth in South Devon.

Grant, who is in his early 30s, spent 15 years with Brend Hotels in North Devon followed by six years as manager of the Barnstaple hotel.

The Sportsmans Arms lies on the A3122 Kingsbridge to Dartmouth road outside the village of Blackawton four miles from the port of Dartmouth.

It has been run under management for the past 12 years, most recently by Heavitree Brewery. It achieved a turnover of £325,000 (ex-Vat) in 2008, with food accounting for 60% of sales.

Facilities include a 20-seat main bar, a 38-seat restaurant, a 28-seat character dining room and a 24-seat family room. The first floor provides five-bedroom owners’ accommodation.

Outside, there are two patio areas with fixed parasols, a beer garden with traditional and circular benches, a children’s play area and a 50-bay car park.

Property agent Bettesworths was seeking offers in the region of £30,000 annual rent for the new, 15-year leasehold.
