Mixed blessings for celebrity chef Worrall Thompson

Celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson could be the subject of an embarrassing legal battle from two disgruntled former employees, The Independent has reported.

Richard de Wet, who helped Worrall Thompson found the Windsor Grill, claimed he and his wife were owed £5,000 of holiday pay after being made redundant from the restaurant.

Worrall Thompson reportedly told the couple hours before they were due to board a flight to Thailand that they were going to get all of their payments.

“This isn’t about bad-mouthing Antony,” said de Wet. “I had a good time with him and I learned a lot. However, I think what he is doing is totally wrong. He said he treated the business like a big family. I think he was taking the piss.”

But it isn’t all bad news for the TV chef who this week re-opened the Greyhound pub in Peppard, Oxfordshire, alongside fellow celebrity cook Ainsley Harriott.

The pub became a victim of the recession last year and was closed after the administrators were called in.
