Caterplus celebrates more graduate chefs in homeless training initiative

Caterplus has announced the graduation of three more people from its 'Can Cook Will Cook' catering training programme, run in association with homeless charity St. Mungo's.

The participants completed a ten week programme to learn about health, nutrition and food preparation to assist them in gaining future employment. Their final challenge saw them cook a Victorian Christmas-themed banquet, including a three-bird roast, for 30 people at a presentation ceremony in Stockwell, South London.

So far the training programme, run by Caterplus staff, has been completed by 24 people and the three most recent graduate trainee chefs now have the chance to be selected for an advanced training programme leading to a paid apprenticeship with the caterer.

Mark ter Telgte, St Mungo's team leader for the programme, said: "Courses like these are important in helping develop particular skills but also vital in boosting people's motivation, will power and self esteem. We hope that these successful graduates go on to apprenticeships, further training and then into long term jobs."

Paul Robottom, director at Caterplus, added: "As St Mungo's catering provider, we are firmly committed to providing more than just food and this programme continues to be a successful way we are helping to meet St Mungo's objectives of getting people into long term work.

"The course has been a massive hit with everyone involved and feedback from the trainees has been brilliant. We look forward to seeing more success stories in the future."
