Compass Group has expanded the scope of its existing contract with the Welsh Assembly Government, in a new deal worth up to £6m in total turnover.

Compass’s Eurest Services, which already provided services at two Welsh government sites, has added another five to its tally, in a three-year deal worth up to £2m in annual turnover.

The contract is Compass’s largest in Wales and charges it with establishing a consistent standard amongst the Welsh Assembly Government sites.

As part of the deal, Compass is working with the Welsh Assembly Government’s Food, Fish and Marketing Division to support small and medium suppliers.

This will see local food suppliers used to support the contract and, in addition, grant them opportunities to supply Compass Group’s UK-wide network.

As well as regional produce, ethical sourcing is a key part of the contract and Compass will make use of its existing Fair-Trade products and partnership with One Water, which uses its profits to build water pumps in Africa.

Graham Sims, managing director of Eurest Services, said: “We are very pleased to be awarded this contract and are committed to our supply development program with the Welsh Assembly Government to identify opportunities for Welsh food producers to supply into this contract and across the Compass Group.”

The All Wales Catering Contract will see Eurest Services operating at seven sites comprising: Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Carmarthen, Caernarfon, Llandrindod Wells, Aberystwyth, Llandudno. The caterer will also provide hospitality services at 83 additional sites.
