Ruth Watson, co-proprietor of the Crown and Castle at Orford and the star of Channel 4’s Country House Rescue, has appointed David Williams as head chef of the Trinity restaurant at her award-winning property.
Watson, who previously presented Five’s Hotel Inspector programme now fronted by Alex Polizzi, has spent six months finding a suitable replacement for her former head chef, 33-year-old Max Dougal, who was killed when his car hit a tree near the village of Bramfield in Suffolk on 24 September 2008.
Williams, who previously headed up the kitchen at Caterer Adopted Business Alimentum in Cambridge and, prior to that, worked at Greywalls in Gullane near Edinburgh, takes on a kitchen that currently holds two AA rosettes and a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
Ruth Watson said the Crown and Castle hopes to “take the quality of the both the cooking and staff training forward while still retaining the honesty and integrity of style that has proved so popular with both customers and critics”.
