Dorset pub customers offered free meal on the toss of a coin

A pub in Dorset is giving customers a 50-50 chance to win a free meal by the toss of a coin.

On Tuesdays, or "Toss-Up Tuesdays" as they are known at the White Hart pub in Bishops Caundle, near Sherborne, customers are invited to flip a coin at the end of their meal. If the coin falls on heads, the meal is free.

Landlord James Curran copied the initiative from bars in Australia, where a coin is tossed to see if drinkers get a free shot with their beer.

He decided that free drinks were not a good idea, so he opted for a food offer instead.

Unsurprisingly, Curran said that there had been an even split between people who had to pay and those who left with a free meal so far.
