Periquita

Portugal's oldest table wine, the Periquita, is being promoted to the UK market by José Maria da Fonseca.

Periquita has been produced since the 1840s on the José Maria da Fonseca estate on the Setubal peninsula, south-east of Lisbon. Castelãleo is the principal grape for the Periquita red 2005 (13.1% abv), accounting for 79% of the blend, along with Trincadeira grapes (10.5%) and Aragonez grapes (10.5%). This dark ruby wine has a fruity bouquet and soft, medium-bodied flavour.

Periquita white 2007 (11.7% abv) is yellowish in colour with greenish tints, and has a lime, banana and apricot nose with a fresh and zesty flavour. It comes from Moscatel de Setubal grapes (80%) and Arinto grapes (20%).
