Salary Watch - Hotel General Managers

Thursday 18 November 2004 12:53
General managers
While the hotel sector has enjoyed a stable and relatively optimistic period during the past six months, there has been no obvious uplift with regard to general manager salary levels, and most positions are not reporting any significant changes. With the economy still on gradual build-up, and movement between jobs in the general management sector remaining relatively static, there has been little reason for salaries to rise significantly.

Recent changes in hotel company ownership will continue to affect the market and may generate some movement that would not otherwise have occurred.

Perhaps, in an attempt to keep the lid on excessive salary increases, companies seeking to recruit candidates externally are often prepared to wait for longer periods to secure the right person at a particular salary level. As the market continues to strengthen, employers will increasingly need to demonstrate more flexibility on salary levels, which in turn will allow for both a wider range and a higher quality of candidate - and potentially a more rapid solution to the vacancy.
